Thesis Research
One of the most important steps you must take before you sit down and begin writing your thesis is doing research on the topic. You need to do some research before you choose the topic, so that you find a suitable topic and you also need to do some research after you’ve chosen the topic, so that you can actually prove the statement of your thesis.
The question is where to start. So, you have successfully chosen your topic which is not too vast but not too narrow either, it hasn’t been done before or at least not too often and you’re happy with it. So, what about it now? You need to find interesting and new information on your topic. Start with the free material that you can find on the web: it may not bring any unheard of information, but it is a start.
Then, start checking out those magazines which are the best in your field: have you renewed your subscriptions lately? You may find it very useful to use the university library too, for most universities offer their students free access to publications other people normally have to pay for. So, go ahead, enjoy the benefits of your already paid tuition: you deserve it.
If that’s not enough either, you can always order some books online: this is a useful tip since you may be able to find them cheaper than in regular libraries. If the latest publications are not enough, try to find some really old books with ideas on the topic. Even if you don’t agree with the ideas in those books, at least you have something to argue against. Never stay limited to your own point of view. Proving others wrong can be just as challenging and as useful. But of course you will need to have something solid in support of your own original idea. Just because you think so doesn’t mean it is so.
